Welcome to Crown Collective! We are Ysabel Bilbao & Martin Bilbao, brother / sister duo who have teamed up to bring Idaho's most modern and high-quality wig selection to you. Growing up it wasn't unusual to walk into our home and see a wig perched on a stand drying on the kitchen table or a topper laying on the bathroom counter. The ladies in our household were avid wig wearers!

Our mom, Liz, and I (Ysabel) fought male patterned baldness, and wigs and toppers allowed us to feel confident and secure in our hair. But it wasn't until our mom's first of three cancer battles that I realized how truly important hair is to a person.

At her initial oncology appointment we sat together in the doctor's office and listened to the daunting list that described what her new few months and ultimately next few years of life would be like. The nurse made a specific reference to her losing her hair, and my mom simply laughed and responded, "no worries, having no hair won't affect me!", while in one swift movement ripping her wig right off! Wigs were obviously not going to get her down, as they never had before.

It was right then that I didn’t want a loss of hair from harsh chemo treatments to cause another patient any more unnecessary suffering from the daunting road they would be walking. Crown Collective has been a dream of mine for nearly a decade. As an avid topper and wig wearer, I didn’t feel it was right to have access and insight into what alternative hair options are out there and not be able to share it with others. I love having “fake hair” and I just don’t care!

There isn’t a week that goes by where someone isn’t telling me how much they love my hair or that they wished they had hair like mine. Unable to keep my secret to myself, I spill the tea! I am known for quickly replying “it’s a wig” or even more dramatically pulling it off in the middle of a crowded room to show people my hair piece - an ode to my mom.

Crown Collective was created to empower you in whatever stage you're at in your own journey. Whether illness has forced you to make a change or you simply aren't happy with your hair, we have your crown covered. As my mom always said, "if you don't like your hair, go buy some that you do!"

Our Mission

Ysabel Bilbao

I am a native 2C girl, proud of my Nampa roots. I love my family so much and while I don’t have kids of my own, I love all my nieces and nephews like they were my own. I love being their Tia Bells!

While Crown Collective has been a dream of mine for the last decade, I never thought I would be a retail owner. In fact, my background is in television news and my day-to-day is in statewide public affairs. I am so thrilled to be bringing Crown Collective to Idaho women and sharing in this journey together!

It was in my late 20’s that my full head of hair was turning into the next generation of a thinning hairline, and it was beyond the point of being salvaged by a heavy teasing comb and extra strength aerosol hairspray. I took a good look in the mirror and realized it was time for me to follow in my mom’s footsteps.

My gateway hair was a full topper that sat high on my crown, I was immediately in love with my new look. Sure, I worried someone would notice, but I soon learned that no one had a clue.

My mom would always tell me to get in and "own my look", teaching me all the ways to care for my new hair and make sure it didn't look too "wiggie". Her inspiration worked and the top of my head hasn’t seen the sun in years!

Wigs have been a part of my family since my early childhood. I vividly remember when our mom first started wearing wigs. In fact, I got the luxury of being the first person to shave her head!

It was an awkward request for a teenage boy that brought my mom and I a lot of laughs for many years following. As I think about her now, I am flooded with memories of our mom especially the one of me sitting in the dining room of our childhood home with her handing me the clippers. As I reminisce about that time, I smile that I am a part of honoring and remembering her, the woman who worked so hard to raise us, and did all she could to make our lives so much better.

Crown Collective is a way to honor our mom while serving women with hair loss needs. When my sister first approached me with the idea, I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into. Over time, and learning the business, I see the benefits our store will have for so many.

I can guarantee you that as a student at the University of Idaho, opening a wig store was not on my list of career possibilities. Today, I am happy to be a part of this partnership and I hope that Crown Collective can provide hope to women, especially to those dealing with the hardships of cancer.

While our inspiration for Crown Collective, our mom Liz, isn’t here to see our store become a reality, we are thankful to have our dad cheering us on and constantly telling us that sometimes dreams can become a reality, so keep on going.

Our mom was diagnosed with three individual cancers. She fought kidney cancer, breast cancer, and bladder cancer with all her might. While the struggle was formidable, and the bad days outweighed the good days, wigs made it easier. She didn't focus on her hair, instead she was able to concentrate on her treatments and healing internally.

With the trial and tribulations of a cancer treatment, hair became the fun part. We never knew what cut or color she would show up in, but whatever it was, she owned her look.

Her bravery, dedication and zest for life have remained our guiding principles. While we wish our mom was here to help others try on their new hair – we know she is looking down on us today and smiling proudly that she could be our inspiration to help others navigate their own hair loss.

From our dad, Fermin:

"I never knew which wig my wife Liz would be wearing. She would always surprise me. Sometimes blonde, sometimes brunette, sometimes a mix of both. It was her purple one that I wasn’t always a fan of, but that didn’t seem to bother her, she loved it!

I always tell people that I came to this country more than 65 years ago to find gold, and instead I found a wife. We married on June 3, 1978, and together raised our daughter and son.

We had a great marriage and were a strong team for 44 years. The last decade was a tough one, but together we fought her battles with not one, not two, but with three separate cancers - kidney, then breast, followed by bladder. She survived the cancers, but the chemo destroyed her bones and a fall in April 2022 changed all our lives forever. I miss my wife daily, and I am happy to support my children’s passions to help others deal with the aftermath of chemo and thin hair.

Crown Collective has been a thought in their minds for a long time, I am excited to see that the doors are open for business."
